Residual Geometry (Fraxinus No. 1) Residual Geometry (Fraxinus No. 2)

Fraxinus is the Latin name for ash. These sculptural benches are derived from a direct engagement with ash logs through the process of carving and planing. The final form of the piece emerged slowly by taking considered faceted cuts from the original log. The process involves removing the bark and decayed wood until only the residual material remains and a new form which echoes and has been guided by the original tree is all that remains.
